Hard to believe that the major holidays are just around the corner, which inevitably means shopping. Before things get out of control with the blitz of advertisements for Black Friday, which is even more hyped up than ever, there are some things you can do today. Let’s start off with some planning and actions.
First, there’s a strong chance that you will be browsing online for at least part of your holiday gift giving and other purchases. This typically means Amazon, which is a great quick and dirty approach to beginning any online shopping comparisons. But, did you know that right now they are offering Amazon credits for buying their gift cards? That’s right, essentially discounted gift cards. This deal ends November 15, and there are restrictions.

Second, if you are going to be shopping through other retailers, think about getting a hold of other discount gift cards. For example, if a new pair of Nike shoes might be making their way to your house, go to Gift Card Granny and pick up a discounted gift card to the NIke store. Currently, you can save about 7.5% before any other coupons you might find on sites like RetailMeNot.
Third, you probably are also going to find yourself in a grocery store (turkey comes to mind). If you are an iPhone 6 or Android smartphone user with Near Field Communication capability on your phone, be sure to set up Apple Pay or Softcard. Both are currently offering incentives for using their apps to pay wherever the payment option is accepted. For example, for quite a while now I have been receiving a $1 back every time I use my phone to make a purchase. The current promotion caps at $50/month. But, there are other promotions, too, which I expect will increase as the smartphone payment industry battles for superiority.
